This Privacy Policy explains how the TV Remote Control mobile application ("the App", package com.relg.universalremotecontrol) handles information. In this policy, "we", "us", and "our" refer to the developer of the App. We are committed to protecting your privacy and designed the App to keep your data on your own device wherever possible. By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Summary
At a glance
- The App is a remote control that talks directly to TVs on your local network. It works without an account and without a server operated by us.
- Your saved TVs, preferences, and pairing credentials are stored only on your device.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- The App displays advertisements provided by a third party, which may collect device and usage data as described below.
Information We Process
a. Information stored on your device
To provide its core features, the App stores the following locally on your device. This information is not transmitted to us:
- Devices you add or that are discovered — such as a TV name, its local IP address, and brand/type — so you can reconnect later.
- Pairing credentials and tokens (for example, authentication tokens or client certificates and keys generated to pair with your TV), kept in your device's secure storage (Keychain on iOS, Keystore/EncryptedSharedPreferences on Android).
- Your app shortcuts and preferences, such as the chosen theme and language.
b. Local network information
When you start a scan, the App sends discovery requests over your local network (using mDNS and SSDP/UPnP) to find compatible TVs, and connects directly to the TV you select. This communication happens on your network, between your device and your TV. We do not receive or store this information.
c. Advertising data
The App uses Google AdMob to display ads. To serve and measure ads, Google and its partners may collect and process information such as device identifiers (including advertising identifiers), IP address, general location, and app interaction data. This processing is governed by Google's own privacy policy.
d. Information we do not collect
How Information Is Used
- To discover, pair with, and control your TVs.
- To remember your devices, shortcuts, and preferences.
- To display and measure advertisements via our ad provider.
- To maintain the security and reliability of the App and prevent abuse.
Legal Bases for Processing
Where applicable law (such as the GDPR) requires a legal basis, we rely on: your consent (for example, for advertising where required); the performance of providing the functionality you request; and our legitimate interests in operating and improving the App. You may withdraw consent at any time as described in Section 7.
Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. Information may be processed by:
- Your TVs and network devices, which receive the commands and pairing data you direct to them.
- Our advertising provider (Google AdMob), as described in Section 2c.
- Authorities or third parties where required by law, or to protect our rights, users, or the public.
Data Retention and Security
Information the App stores remains on your device until you remove the relevant device or shortcut within the App, clear the App's data, or uninstall the App. Pairing credentials are held in platform-provided secure storage. While no method of storage is 100% secure, we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
Your Choices and Rights
- Manage your data: add or delete saved devices and shortcuts at any time within the App, or clear all data by uninstalling it.
- Advertising: you can limit ad personalization through your device settings (for example, by resetting or limiting your advertising identifier).
- Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal information, or to object to it. To exercise these rights, contact us using the details in Section 11.
Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with such information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
International Users
The App stores data on your device. Where third-party services such as our ad provider are involved, your information may be processed in countries other than your own, in accordance with their respective privacy policies and applicable safeguards.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date and policy version above and, where appropriate, ask you to review and accept the updated policy again. Your continued use of the App after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
